Robin Koch has had a difficult time with injuries since joining Leeds United from SC Freiburg in June 2020.
The defender missed a chunk of his first season at Elland Road due to a knee injury. That didn’t stop him being named in Germany’s squad for the delayed Euro 2020, and it’s clear he has fans in the national team set-up.
This season Koch has again missed a big chunk of matches, making his return for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, and his first appearance for the club since August, in December, and playing two further games since.
As well as his aims with Leeds United, he still has national team ambitions, and should he stay fit, and perform well for the Premier League club, then he has a good chance of making those aims happen.
Speaking to Bild am Sonntag, and quoted by SportBuzzer, the 25-year-old said: “The national coach and I spoke on the phone several times. It is a great motivation for me: I have the goal of returning to the DFB team as soon as possible, of course. As I said, I am always in contact with the doctors at the DFB.
“I will accelerate and present myself in the best possible way. Every national player naturally wants to be at the World Cup. Last summer we broke up after the Euroa and said: We have to do better. And we want to implement that together. But there is still a lot of time until then.”
Koch can use that time to impress for Leeds United, and therefore make sure he’s in contention for the World Cup.
