Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has revealed he had offers from Spain before electing to renew his deal at Anfield.
The Spanish goalkeeper extended his stay with Liverpool yesterday, electing to sign a new deal with the club instead of letting his contract expire this summer.
He’s now set to stay until next year at the earliest, by which point he will have been at Anfield for four years.
Before signing his new deal, he had been heavily linked with a return to Spain, where he previously spent his career playing for Real Betis.
Adrian spent all of his early career working his way up through Betis’ youth ranks and made the first team in 2012, going on to make 32 appearances before joining West Ham in 2013.
It was believed they could be keen to bring him in on a free transfer for Claudio Bravo, who had been linked with a return to his homeland or potential retirement.
The Liverpool man will be staying where he is for the time being, though, despite having offers to move elsewhere.
“We will stay here for a couple of more seasons for the moment,” he told Canal Sur Radio’s El Pelotazo, relayed by MARCA.
“It’s a very beneficial agreement, I’m happy; it’s shown the level at which the club is. And although last year was not what we expected, we have been as high as possible.
“It was time to make a decision, and with what was on the table, I decided to continue at Liverpool.
“There has been interest from several Spanish clubs, but it’s something that stays there.
“I would like to go home after so many years away, I’ve been in the Premier League for eight seasons, but I’m 34 years old, I’m very well physically, and I’ll keep it that way.”
