In the winter transfer window, Manchester City were linked with a move for Lazio’s Nicolo Rovella.

There was a claim in the Italian press that the Citizens saw the Italian as a potential replacement for Rodri and a €40m price tag was spoken of.

That piece of news caught attention in Italy and was spoken about by former coach and current pundit Dario Marcolini after Lazio’s impressive 5-1 win over Monza yesterday afternoon.

While speaking about the game, Marcolini had big praise for Rovella and he brought up the links with Manchester City.

He said, as relayed by LaLazioSiamoNoi: “If Guardiola has his eye on him there must be a reason.

“Today Lazio is his Manchester City, then maybe he will take him to other shores, but the starting point is never forgotten.”

It’s no surprise in Italy that Rovella is liked by Pep Guardiola, having impressed a lot this season while playing in a deeper midfield role under Lazio manager Marco Baroni.

Having said that, Manchester City have signed Nico Gonzalez from Porto late in the winter transfer window.

That could rule out their potential move for Rovella in the future, as both Gonzalez and the Lazio star play in similar positions on the pitch.

So if the 23-year-old wants a Manchester City move, he will have to impress even further.
