Jürgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of this season and Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is expected to replace the German coach at Anfield.
At the end of last week, Slot said that an agreement hasn’t been reached with the Reds just yet.
On Sunday, the Eredivisie side sealed a 5-0 win over PEC Zwolle at home, and prior to the tie, ESPN had a chat with the manager on the possibility of taking over at Liverpool, his quotes are relayed by Voetbal Zone.
The 45-year-old claims he isn’t aware when his move to the Merseyside club will be made official but maintains confidence of leaving Feyenoord for Liverpool.
“These kinds of things always take some time. I have said many times that I’m confident that things will turn out well. I can’t tell you exactly when it will be released at the moment,” he said.
This indicates that Liverpool are closer to securing an agreement with the Dutchman and only the official announcement is now missing.
PSV general manager Marcel Brands had a spell at Liverpool’s local rivals, Everton, in the past, and has urged Slot not to focus only on Dutch players.
ESPN reporter Toine van Peperstraten quizzed Slot whether he’ll consider Brands’ advice.
When responding to that, Slot explained: “That’s good advice from people who have worked in the Premier League and have made their mark in football. But I don’t think you should always judge based on moments from the past.
“I also read everywhere about the success rate of Dutch coaches in England… There are so many variables. If a player is good, it shouldn’t matter what level he comes from. But at the moment there’s no talk of anything, because nothing has been officially confirmed yet.”
