Billy Gilmour left Brighton to join Napoli last summer after a topsy-turvy saga.

The midfielder is now very close to winning the Serie A title, with Napoli currently at the top of the table and finding themselves three points clear of Inter Milan.

Considering that, the Scotland international is surely not going to have any regrets about joining the Partenopei.

He’s now spoken to Lega Serie A about his life in Naples so far and also reflected on the decision to leave Brighton.

He said, as relayed by NapoliCalcio24: “My favourite thing in Naples definitely has to be the weather. From the UK, you don’t see the sun much, but the weather is really nice here.”

Reflecting on the decision to depart the Seagulls, Gilmour revealed that he wanted a change and Napoli was a good opportunity.

“My expectation coming here was to try something new.”

“The Premier League is excellent, but the opportunity came up, so I decided to come here and experience something new. I think until you actually play it, you don’t understand how hard the league is and how tactical you need to be.”

The Scotsman also indicated that playing for Napoli gives him a better chance of winning silverware than Brighton did.

“The ultimate goal for players is to win as many trophies as possible, and I think that playing in Naples, I have a possibility to do that.”

Gilmour had made a slow start to life in Italy as he had started none of the first four league games. But his prominence has increased in the second half of the season, as he has played each of the last ten games in Serie A.

He has had a role to play in their title charge, especially considering how Stanislav Lobotka has had injury issues in the campaign.

The decision to join Napoli is turning out to be a terrific one for the midfielder and even more so if Antonio Conte’s side win Serie A.
