Rangers striker Cedric Itten has insisted that nobody at the club is discussing Steven Gerrard’s imminent future.
Gerrard is currently hot property in Scotland, having led Rangers to their 55th title success, with Celtic’s draw against Dundee United meaning they cannot be caught at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Their win has brought an end to Celtic’s domination of Scottish football over the last nine years and is the culmination of three years of rebuilding work from Gerrard.
His first trophy as a manager has sparked rumours about his future, with many impressed by the work he has done at Ibrox since his arrival in 2018.
The obvious link is to Liverpool, with some suggestions he should make a sensational return to Anfield to replace under-fire boss Jürgen Klopp.
That could become a bigger issue come the summer, with Klopp likely to be heavily linked to the Germany job now that Joachim Löw has announced his decision to leave after the European Championships.
Losing Gerrard would obviously be a blow to Rangers, but Itten insists the issue is not even being discussed at Ibrox currently.
“Our trainer showed huge emotions and celebrated with us,” he told FM1 Today.
“What we have achieved together means a lot to him. He embodies Rangers; he is an important part of the upswing and, of course, knows the whole story in detail.
“Gerrard has seen and invested a lot in the last three years. The media speculate, we within the team don’t.
“But his record is impressive; Gerrard is on a record course. Anyone who produces such figures as a coach becomes interesting. I would like him to stay.”
