Fulham star João Palhinha saw his move to Bayern Munich collapse on deadline day.
The 28-year-old travlled to Germany and even underwent medical tests with the Bavarian club but the latter were unable to get the deal over the line. Since returning to Fulham, he’s signed a new contract until 2028, with an option for another year.
DAZN/Eleven have interviewed Fulham manager Marco Silva and he explained that a failed transfer in the last window had nothing to do with his renewal. He also revealed what happened behind the scenes in the summer, and his quotes are relayed by A Bola.
Silva has revealed the Portugal international’s fine displays resulted in several clubs wanting to acquire his services in the last window, but his employer decided not to part ways with him.
“The renewal was important and it was something that was being planned, it wasn’t because of Bayern or anything like that. It was already being planned during the summer,” he said.
“João had several proposals, this one from Bayern was more popular because it is one of the biggest clubs in the world, but there were others and the club decided not to sell. With players who perform like they do and gain such great importance, Fulham have to do something to make them feel good and valued. That’s what happened.”
Despite the failed move to the Bundesliga side, Palhinha continues to have an important role at Fulham as he’s made six appearances this season.
