Chelsea are among the clubs looking at a deal for Ajax goalkeeper Diant Ramaj, as they look for someone to challenge summer signing Robert Sanchez.

That’s according to BILD and journalist Christian Falk, who say Chelsea are one of several sides ‘interested’ in the German goalkeeper.

The Blues spent big this summer to sign Sanchez from Brighton, but the Spanish goalkeeper has not entirely established himself as the undisputed number one this season, with a series of less than impressive performances.

There is a distinct sense at Stamford Bridge that he is a stop-gap solution at best rather than a long-term goalkeeper for the project that the Blues are looking to build.

Chelsea also have Djordje Petrovic on their books, with the youngster having played a back up role to Sanchez this season, while Marcus Bettinelli is very much the third-choice experienced goalkeeper in the group.

And it seems that, alongside the probably permanent departure of Kepa Arrizabalaga in the summer, has them looking around the market for options and Ramaj is one of them according to Falk.

“That’s true yes,” he told Englische Woche on reported interest from Chelsea and others.

“He was number two behind Trapp in Frankfurt and moved to Ajax Amsterdam this season, where he knows his place in goal. He’s number one there and impresses with strong performances.

“Have some Premier League clubs really taken notice of him? Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal have and the tempting thing about all three is that he would have the chance to become number one.

“He could really attack the regular goalkeepers and that’s the plan at these clubs. The clubs are keen, they’re on him and my colleague Tobias Altschäffl has heard that it could become concrete.”
