Feyenoord were ‘lucky’ that Everton showed an interest in forward is Luis Sinisterra, as it pushed Leeds United to pay a bigger price for the winger.

That’s according to De Telegraaf journalist Valentijn Driessen, who believes Jesse Marsch’s side may be overpaying for the forward.

Sinisterra is on the verge of completing a move to Leeds, with them having pushed for a deal this week amid Raphinha’s uncertain future at Elland Road.

The Brazilian star has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona for months, while the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal have also shown an interest in him.

He is widely expected to leave Leeds at some point, a departure that would leave the club with a massive hole in their team that they’d need to fill.

It appears they want to do so with Sinisterra, who impressed for Feyenoord last season, scoring 23 goals and registering 14 assists in 49 games in all competitions.

Indeed, a deal is now close to being completed, but Driessen believes Leeds may be paying over the odds because of the interest also shown by Everton.

“This has everything to do with that Conference League, doesn’t it? Certainly the final phase and the fact that Feyenoord got that far,” he told De Telegraaf.

“That is, of course, the reason why he is so profitable because he showed himself in the Conference League and only in the final was he a bit less. But he is a player.

“The English have so much money, too much in fact, that they are willing to pay these kind of amounts for Sinisterra. He still has to prove himself in England.

“But the amount is going to be at least €25m. I think with bonuses; they go to 30. An amount I had never taken into account. Certainly not.

“In this case, that’s a lot of money for Sinisterra. He (Dennis te Kloese) did that very well. He was, of course, lucky that Everton were also interested in Sinisterra, which drives up the price. Te Kloese has done a good job.”
