West Ham United youngster Krisztián Hegyi has detailed how he hopes to be featuring in the first team in future, starting with a loan spell to Stevenage.

The young goalkeeper has been speaking to M4 Sport in Hungary after linking up with the country’s U21 squad for this international break.

The 20year-old has been with West Ham since joining their U18 side from Haladas U17’s in April 2019 and working his way up through the various youth ranks from that point.

He’s yet to appear for West Ham’s senior side but has been a regular for the U18’s and U21s, racking up 30 games for the former and 55 for the latter and over 7000 minutes of playing time.

This summer has saw him take a step away from the club and join League One side Stevenage on loan in the hope of regular playing time at a higher level and further development.

He’s enjoyed a positive start to life with them so far, with two appearances to his name and just two goals conceded as well as a clean sheet.

This is being seen as a positive by the goalkeeper, who when talking to M4 Sport stated that playing in England’s third tier ‘will be good for him’ as it will allow him to ‘get a taste of adult football’.

Furthermore, he’s hoping to benefit from the fact that the style of play is very different from youth football and that ‘there are a lot of crosses’ to be dealt with, making games more physical from a goalkeeping point of view. Both areas he is seemingly keen to develop and learn in.

In terms of long-term goals, Hegyi says he would like to get on West Ham’s bench first, then in the starting line up as “that’s what (I) fight for every day”.

It’s all positive from the youngster, who seems to not only have his head screwed on right but a clear plan for success at the London Stadium, a refreshing stance in a football landscape dominated by over entitled and protected youngsters the world over.
