Mjällby AIF sporting director Hans Larsson has told Tipsbladet that Manchester United are following Otto Rosengren.
The 19-year-old joined the Swedish club’s academy from Sölvesborgs GoIF in 2019 and was promoted to their senior team in 2021. Operating mainly as a midfielder, he made 29 appearances last season and has been a regular this year.
Manchester United are one of the clubs to have sent their scouts to follow him in action for Mjällby. Larsson has stressed there isn’t aren’t any advanced discussions for his sale in the summer.
“There have been some Danish, English and a Dutch club looking at him. Viborg, AGF and Manchester United, among others, have been looking at him,” he said.
“There is nothing concrete about him. There have been some rumours, and then several clubs have looked at him.”
When asked if his side will sell the Sweden U21 international in the next window, Larsson explained: “I don’t know. We must wait and see. It’s his first year as a real first-team player in Allsvenskan, and I’m not so sure he wants to leave either. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.”
Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen also interviewed the Mjällby chief over Manchester United keeping tabs on the teenager. He has revealed the Red Devils have watched Rosengren on numerous occasions.
“I think it’s been several times actually, at least based on what they told me, but I haven’t met anyone. They have only contacted and said that they will come, because they want tickets,” he said.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on Otto, but there have also been a couple of Danish and Dutch clubs who have been here.”
Larsson believes the presence of Manchester United scouts to watch the Swede is a sign that Mjällby are moving in the right direction.
“It’s really nice, absolutely. It’s a sign that Mjällby are working properly, and he’s their own product, so it’s wonderful,” the director stressed.
“Then it is his first year as a regular in Allsvenskan. It is up to both him and us to let him go, but it is not concrete. As usual, you have to lie low until there is something concrete. We have nothing, just that they look at him, and that’s exciting.”
Larsson was then asked if Mjällby can keep Rosengren this year. He said, “Yes, I think so, but you never know.”
