Back in March, Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso publicly admitted that he has a desire to play in Spain in the near future.
The left-back, who can also operate as a left wing-back, has just over 12 months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
For the past few weeks, he has been repeatedly linked to Barcelona. The La Liga side are looking for a new left-back to provide cover and competition to Jordi Alba next season.
Luis Enrique has included Thomas Tuchel’s man in his squad for Spain’s UEFA Nations League matches this month. This allowed the Spanish press to have a chat with Alonso.
With the Spain international’s future is up in the air, Onda Cero state the defender doesn’t close the door to make a switch to La Liga this summer, even though he is happy with his life at Chelsea.
“Not at the moment. On paper I have one more year of contract and that’s what it is today. I’ve already said other times that I would like to [return to Spain], but it doesn’t depend entirely on me,” he said.
“There are two games left here and then it’s time to rest. I’ve played 50 games, we’ve been world champions, we’ve had bad luck in the cup finals.”
“I can’t complain about anything at Chelsea but the desire to play in Spain is there. It doesn’t depend entirely on me and I’m happy at Chelsea. I am honest.”
Real Madrid have already announced a deal to sign Alonso’s former teammate, Antonio Rudiger.
On the latter’s decision to join Los Blancos, the Spaniard said: “He’s a great player, it’s what he wanted and I wish him the best. After the match at the Bernabéu more or less he told us. he has plenty.”
