Cote D’Ivoire coach Emerse Fae has revealed defender Willy Boly is set to miss the clash with Chad through injury, in what may be bad news for Nottingham Forest.
L’Avenir cover comments from the Cote D’Ivoire coach today in his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying this evening.
His side travel to Chad to take on their hosts in matchday two of six for qualification for the tournament next year.
They currently sit top of the group after a win over Zambia, while Chad and Sierra Leone sit 2nd and 3rd on a point each.
Boly is again a part of the squad but missed the win over Zambia as he was left out of the squad. It seems now tests have been carried out and the Nottingham Forest man is suffering from a calf injury later picked up in training.
“Regarding the absence of Willy Boly, I will simply explain to you: he was unfortunately injured in training just before our match against Chad,” explained Fae.
“Examinations revealed a calf injury, and he is therefore unavailable. He returned to the club to recover.”
The question now is whether Boly is absent for an extended length of time for Nottingham Forest, who will be cursing their luck either way.
The 33-year-old did started the season in the team against Bournemouth but was dropped for the 1-0 win over Southampton, managing just a solitary minute in that game before sitting on the bench for the 1-1 draw with Wolves.
He’s not suffered from calf injuries before but did miss 85 days with a hamstring injury in 2022/23 and 20 days previously in 2021/22 with a similar problem.
How long he is absent with this problem remains to be seen, but it is one of several calf injuries picked up by players in this international break that could hint at a new, worrying trend.
