Steven Bergwijn has been linked with Premier League clubs for a while, but claims of serious Manchester United interest haven’t really been around.
That changed on Saturday when De Telegraaf published a big article about the player and his future, with it being claimed both Manchester United and Liverpool are ‘hot’ on him.
The Merseyside club have been linked repeatedly previously, but Jose Mourinho’s men being brought in would be fresher.
De Telegraaf reported that both clubs had someone watch Bergwijn against Inter Milan during the week, and they explain his transfer intentions.
The primarily left sided attacker has a ‘clear plan’ with PSV. First he wants to prove himself in the Champions League and for the Dutch national team, and then he’ll leave PSV for ‘tens of millions’.
At 20 years of age, Bergwijn has now been called up by Ronald Koeman for the Netherlands so this season he has a chance to tick those national and Champions League boxes.
As for Manchester United, a left sided attacker who can play across the front three doesn’t really seem to be the gap they need to fill at the moment.
