Manchester United have already confirmed they have appointed Erik ten Hag as their new permanent manager.
The Dutchman has signed a contract until 2025 with the Red Devils, and the deal will have an option to further extend it by a year.
Earlier today, De Telegraaf stated the Eredivisie coach wants to bring his current assistant, Mitchell van der Gaag, along with him to Manchester United. It was also explained the 52-year-old has ‘arranged the contract’ with the Red Devils for Van der Gaag.
Former Ajax midfielder Hedwiges Maduro has stated that Van der Gaag was a possibility to become Ten Hag’s successor at the Amsterdam club. The 37-year-old is disappointed the current Ajax assistant manager will follow Ten Hag to England.
“I always heard very good stories about him. He goes with Ten Hag and that of course says a lot. Ten Hag would like to have him there,” Maduro told Voetbalpraat, relayed by Soccernews.nl.
“I would not have found him an illogical option to become head coach of Ajax. He is a very good trainer, and he’s already been at Ajax. Heitinga and Van der Gaag could even have done it together.”
Maduro went on suggest that Club Brugge manager Alfred Schreuder should succeed Ten Hag at Ajax next season. He is of the belief that out of all the available Dutch coaches, Schreuder is “actually the best option”.
