Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been urged to revive his interest in Ajax’s Brian Brobbey this summer.

That’s according to journalist Valentijn Driessen, who would like to see Brobbey make the move to Old Trafford if it was offered to him.

He was part of a discussion with fellow journalist Mike Verweij on De Telegraaf’s Kick-off podcast when the subject of Brobbey’s future was brought up.

According to Verweij English and Italian ‘top clubs have inquired’ about the 21-year-old this summer, but he is not thinking about a departure at this moment in time.

He is apparently happy where he is for the time being after scoring 13 and registering three assists in 32 games in Eredivisie this season and featuring in just over half of the available minutes in the league.

He’s been enjoying his development back at his old club, who he joined for €16.35m in the summer after an unsuccessful spell at RB Leipzig.

That window also saw him linked with a move to Manchester United, where it was claimed Ten Hag saw him as a cheap alternative and even tried until the last minute to get a deal done.

That never happened and he went to Ajax, where he’s got the gametime he wants and is happy enough to stay according to Verweij.

Driessen, though, would like to see the move happen if they revive their interest.

“If Ten Hag is on the doorstep with Manchester United, I’d like to see it happen,” he said.

“For Brobbey, there is also a lot of interest,” Verweij then explained.

“There are Italian and English clubs who have inquired about him. He is 21, has played 32 games this season, scored 13 goals and provided three assists. He was involved in a goal every 100 minutes.

“But this was obviously not his season. He missed a lot of chances in the closing stages of the season. Fortunately, though, he is realistic enough to think it makes a lot more sense to stay in Amsterdam.

“You’re really surprised. A lot of top clubs really see a lot of potential in him. That is also justified, I think.”
