Bas Dost is in direct competition with Vincent Janssen for a Netherlands starting place, that’s unless manager Danny Blind tries a different formation.

This week there have been various fan polls around the Dutch media asking supporters which of the pair should be picked for the next match, and whilst most of the polls are pretty much even, Dost probably edges it overall.

Janssen is much liked in the Netherlands, both for his goals and his attitude, he’s seen as the opposite to some of the ‘starry’ Dutch youngsters of recent years. Dost will be edging it because of his good goalscoring record since joining Sporting in the summer.

De Telegraaf have a big feature in their Tuesday edition on Dost, and he’s asked about Janssen. Dost seems to be repeatedly asked about Janssen and he sounds like he’s had enough.

Dost sounds pretty sensible and went on to say that if he stops scoring for a period then the criticism will soon be going his way.

Maybe 45 minutes for each in the next Netherlands match… and a goal for each?
