On June 14th, Sport reported Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte ‘wants’ to join Barcelona and will do everything in his power to push for a transfer.

Mundo Deportivo claim the centre-back has ‘serious doubts’ over his continuity at the Etihad after losing his place in the starting XI last season.

Rúben Dias and John Stones are ahead of the 27-year-old, and a source close to Laporte state: “It is a frankly complicated scenario. He wants to feel important, but it seems that at City, he will always have someone in front of him.”

Pep Guardiola hasn’t spoke to the defender for a long time, and he ‘doesn’t understand’ the reason behind his manager’s silence. The former Athletic Club Bilbao man’s situation at City has made him seriously consider returning to La Liga.

“This can only go in one direction, if neither of them gives his arm to twist, and it is for the worse,” the same source told Mundo.

Barca are the “team that most seduces him”, if he can leave the Etihad this summer.

Laporte likes Ronald Koeman’s side, even more so now that his two friends, Sergio Agüero and Eric García, joined them.

The France-born Spain international has a contract until 2025 and is aware of the La Liga side’s ‘delicate economic situation’.

The Catalan club cannot afford his transfer and can only consider taking Laporte in an exchange operation.

Laporte has a desire to make a switch to Barcelona and only time should tell if his wish can be fulfilled.
