Trying to give Vincent Kompany players to help secure promotion back to the Premier League, Burnley have been scouring around the European market.

One of the deals in the work is to try and sign Darko Churlinov from VfB Stuttgart, which has been delayed, but he wasn’t the only player they were after, having failed to sign Moussa Sissako from Standard Liège.

The defender, also targeted by Sunderland AFC, was, according to L’Equipe journalist Loïc Tanzi, in talks with Burnley, but ‘didn’t find an agreement with the English club’.

However, the Black Cats still have a chance of securing the 21-year-old’s services, as ‘talks are underway’ in that regard between the player and the Stadium of Light residents.

Sunderland face competition from ‘another foreign club’, although their name isn’t revealed, but it appears that Standard are willing to let their player go for the right price.

Alex Neil’s men have started their campaign in similar fashion to Burnley, picking up five points from their first four games, and currently sit 11th in the Championship.

A new centre-back could certainly be of use at Sunderland, who only have Daniel Ballard, Aji Alese, Danny Batth and Bailey Wright in the role in their squad at present.

As for Burnley, they have a few more to choose from, but it’s clear Kompany wants some more depth and quality going forward.

However, it won’t be Sissako providing it, who appears to have a better chance of heading further north to Sunderland these days.
