Much like Switzerland’s opening game of the Euros against Wales, the Granit Xhaka negotiations between Arsenal and AS Roma are currently at a ‘stalemate’.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who give their update on the situation on Monday.
They explain that while a deal with the player has ‘already been reached’, the two sides are refusing to budge on their current stance.
It’s made clear that ‘they both know the deal will close, but neither of them wants to make that extra financial effort to define it’ as things stands.
What could help in all this is Xhaka lending a helping hand to AS Roma, as Tiago Pinto would like the Swiss midfielder ’to apply pressure’ on Arsenal to let him go for what the Italians are offering.
The number on the table isn’t stated by Corriere, but Il Tempo recall that the Gunners ‘refused a first offer of around €15m’, with ‘developments’ expected in the coming days.
That’s where we stand right now, but it appears that things will get done. Eventually…
