It’s unclear whether Manchester City are simply being used to add drama to Faouzi Ghoulam’s Napoli renewal, or whether they really want him.
Nearly every day there’s something in the Italian media about Manchester City interest in the left back, and Friday is no exception.
Renewal talks with Napoli have stalled, which is a worry considering Ghoulam’s contract ends in June. Gazzetta dello Sport say there are ‘several details’ left to be sorted, and those details include his actual wages, bonuses, and commissions.
So, pretty much everything then.
The ‘Manchester City of Guardiola’ is ‘on the trail’ of Ghoulam, explain Gazzetta, and that leaves open Napoli’s potential free transfer worst-case-scenario.
In reality there doesn’t seem an awful lot concrete in the Manchester City claims, and Napoli certainly haven’t been so panicked they’ve decided to give in to Ghoulam’s demands.
As it stands, this very much looks like an issue between Ghoulam and Napoli.
