Multiple sources are reporting West Ham interest in Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic.

The 28-year-old Serbian has less than a year left on his deal with the Serie A club, so an exit is clearly possible before the window ends. He’s only had a half football so far this season, yet played 28 matches over the last campaign, missing several games due to injury and managerial choice.

Il Mattino, a newspaper local to Napoli, report West Ham and Inter Milan are interested in the signing, but they don’t add anything more.

Angelo Mangiante, a journalist for Sky Italia, backs-up interest from the Hammers, and adds that ‘talks are ongoing’ with Napoli.

Gianluca Di Marzio, also from Sky Italia, has a headline on his website reading: ‘West Ham, offer for Maksimovic: contacts between clubs’

He goes on to explain the Premier League club have made an offer for Maksimovic, and sounds confident that an agreement can be reached with Napoli.

This option could be seen as a cheaper alternative to Daniele Rugani for West Ham. The Juventus defender is linked with a transfer every window, however, on previous occasions everything has slipped away.
