Burnley striker Darko Churlinov is a candidate for Schalke to bolster their forward line next season and ‘talks are in full swing’ for him to return to his former club.
That’s according to Sky Sports Germany, who say the German side are very much working to sign Churlinov back from Burnley.
Churlinov joined Burnley as part of Vincent Kompany’s huge overhaul of the playing squad last summer after eight years with various teams in Germany.
He had managed just two goals and six assists in 23 games for Schalke during a loan spell at the club between 2021 and 2022, a tally which was seemingly enough to convince Kompany and co that he could cut it in the Championship.
That has not proven to be the case, though, and he has managed just one goal this season, as well as unimpressive tally of 13 appearances in all competitions.
It appears he is very much not a part of Burnley’s plans and several reports have linked him with a return to Schalke this summer as a result.
That is a possibility, according to Sky, who say he is ‘another candidate’ that those in charge of the German club are looking at and ‘talks are in full swing’ to make a transfer happen.
There’s no mention of the nature of those negotiations, such as what Burnley will ask for in terms of a transfer fee, although they’ll presumably try and recover as much of their €3.5m outlay as possible.
Talks are underway regardless, though, and it would not be a surprise to see Churlinov back at his former club at some point.
