Eric Garcia’s contract with Manchester City expires at the end of the current season, and it’s widely expected he’ll be returning to Barcelona.
Indeed, such a transfer has been treated as fact for several months. The Catalan club tried to sign the defender for a cut-price fee last summer, with City unwilling to sell cheaply at the time. They then considered trying again in January, but the presidential void made things difficult.
The 20-year-old has only featured in four Premier League matches this season, with those totalling 215 minutes. Despite that, Luis Enrique called him up for the current international break, and that’s seen Garcia speak to the media.
Inevitably he’s been asked about joining Barcelona in the summer, and he tried his best to bat the questions away.
Mundo Deportivo quote him as saying: “My situation is the same, I have a contract with City, it is true that this year is ending and what happens outside is carried out by my agent. In summer there is a Euros and I have to be prepared for this.”
Pressed further, Garcia said: “If they have to talk about something, they will have to talk about it with my agent, I am focused on this season, on my team and on the national team.”
That still wasn’t good enough for the media present and several further transfer related questions were thrown the way of Garcia to provide answers which didn’t really mean a great deal. He was likely glad to get out of the press conference and will now hope Enrique gives him much needed minutes in the coming matches.
