With the Champions League returning next week, teams are already thinking that far ahead, especially Juventus when it comes to Tottenham.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side, for good reason, are seen as a difficult challenge for the Serie A champions, and there’s every chance they could get knocked out early of a competition they are used to going quite far in.
In order to overcome Spurs, they’ll need to have as many of their key players around as possible, but that might not happen, as there are question marks regarding Paulo Dybala’s fitness.
With an important game against Fiorentina coming up at the weekend, Max Allegri was asked about whether or not the Argentina international could play in the coming week.
He answered, relayed by Eurosport in Italy: “I don’t know if he’ll be able to feature against Tottenham. This isn’t the last game of the season, it isn’t the time to risk someone when there’s 14 league games left, at least one more in the Coppa Italia and another in the Champions League.
“Why would we take risks? I’ll see how the squad works, and how the others come along by themselves. I need to look at the season as a whole, not a game that isn’t a final”.
This will be music to Tottenham’s ears, who were likely worried about the trequartista and his ability to make something out of nothing if his team is in difficulty.
Of course, it’s still possible he’ll play, we’ll be keeping an eye out for anything new on the situation over the next few days.
