Benfica head coach Bruno Lage has made some interesting comments in relation to former Aguias players Bernardo Silva and Joao Felix.

The 48-year-old called the Premier League players “symbols of the club”. His words come as their futures with their respective sides remain tentative.

Felix is currently on loan with AC Milan after failing to impress Enzo Maresca during the first half of the season at Chelsea. He is set to return to Stamford Bridge in the summer, where the idea is that he will be moved on.

Record reported earlier this month that the forward would be ‘delighted’ to return to the Estádio da Luz in the summer and is hopeful a deal can be reached.

It’s thought that any move would be a loan and the Blues would cover part of his wages.

Manchester City star Silva, for his part, is approaching another summer of uncertainty at the Etihad Stadium.

In previous years he was linked with a move to Barcelona, but the La Liga giant’s well-documented financial issues saw that potential transfer collapse.

Earlier this month, Silva was linked with a move back to Benfica. A Bola then released a subsequent report stating that negotiations are ongoing and progressing.

While there’s talk of both players making a return, Lage clarified that he has not spoken to either of them in months.

He said via Correio da Manhã’s weekend edition: “I can share a conversation I had. I don’t think about players other than those in the squad. The important thing for me is my players, they are the ones I have to care for.”
