Five months ago, we covered a few stories which claimed Swansea City were in negotiations for Benfica defender Lisandro Lopez. In a mix of reports from England and Portugal, it was said the Welsh side were in talks for a loan deal.
But Benfica had other plans, and with not much time to sign a replacement, they turned down the offer. This summer, however, it’s more likely they’d accept a move to Swansea City or elsewhere.
Record has a piece on the player on Monday, saying he could leave in this transfer window if the club get the right offer. He’s already been approached by sides from England, Spain, and Italy.
Benfica paid €4m to sign Lopez in 2013, and that’s the minimum price they will accept to negotiate now. The player has a €45m release clause.
Lopez has only managed to make 17 appearances this season, and the reason isn’t only that he’s a squad player. His injuries, especially one on to left knee, left him out of contention so that’s something that should be considered by Swansea City before moving again.
