It seems it’s been a while since Renato Sanches hasn’t seen much of a future for himself at Swansea City.
Loaned to the Premier League side by Bayern Munich since last summer, the midfielder has failed to impress at the Welsh club, and shouldn’t be missed once his loan spell is over.
The Portuguese press has now been reporting his desire to return to Benfica, his first club, and today Diário de Notícias claims that the negotiations are on.
Interestingly, they claim that Sanches asked for this transfer at the start of the year, during his loan at Swansea.
It means it’s been a long time since the player has been convinced that he wouldn’t be staying at the Premier League side for next season, or at least he didn’t want to.
Although Diário de Notícias writes the many possibilities for his future, including loans and permanent transfers, Swansea aren’t mentioned even once as a candidate to keep him.
