Manchester City midfielder Rodri has undoubtedly just had an outstanding season.
The treble won by Pep Guardiola’s side speaks for itself, but the 26-year-old must also be acknowledged for stepping up and becoming such a key player in their team.
Now, could Rodri be considered the best player in the world? Well, there are people at Spanish outlet Marca who believe that.
As Pablo Parra today hosted Radio Marca’s show Marcador, he made very nice comments about the Manchester City midfielder, and claimed he could be considered the best footballer of the year.
“Rodrigo Hernández is today the best midfielder in the world,” said Parra.
“Rodri, without a doubt, is a footballer that no one should be surprised to find is in the race to win the Ballon d’Or.”
Manchester City spent €70m to sign Rodri from Atletico Madrid in 2019.
It may have taken him some work to adapt to their playing style at first, but he then became a central piece in their midfield and never left that role. In the club’s most glorious season in history, he made 56 appearances, with 4478 minutes on the pitch, and that shows the impact he had in all the titles won in the past month.
Now we shall see if he’ll enter the race for a Ballon d’Or.
