Real Sociedad are yet to receive word from Wolverhampton Wanderers regarding striker Willian Jose, with it considered ‘impossible’ that they will exercise their option to buy on him.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who do, however, say that Wolves are willing to pay compensation for not activating the clause.
Jose spent the second half of last season on loan with the Premier League side, who brought him in to replace the injured Raul Jimenez.
That loan deal included an option for Wolves to make it permanent, but that is unlikely to happen after the striker managed just one goal during his time at the club.
Several reports have indicated they’re not keen on taking up their option, although it has been said that will mean they have to pay compensation for not doing so.
Mundo Deportivo cover the situation today and state that it ‘seems impossible’ that Wolves will take up their option to buy, which is around €25m.
However, when the initial deal was signed, they ‘agreed to pay’ between €3m and €4m in compensation if they decided not to do so.
It seems they’ll be paying that at some point then, with a permanent move to Molineux off the cards this summer for José.
The fee is likely both a blessing and a curse for Sociedad, who had felt it was ‘almost impossible for him to return’ to the club after his loan spell due to said compensation agreement.
That’s happening despite their best efforts, although at least they’ll be getting a minor fee for taking the striker back.
