Jonny’s good few months continue as the Wolves player has been called up to Spain’s senior squad for the matches against Wales and England.
Of long term interest to Atletico Madrid, Diego Simeone’s side were forced to move in the summer window when the fullback was receiving attention from elsewhere.
Before completing the signing from Celta Vigo, Atletico had already agreed a loan deal with Wolves, through good connections which already exist between the two clubs. Inevitably, Atleti went on to have problems in the fullback department and may now regret the loan.
Jonny probably won’t, given it’s seen him called up by Luis Enrique. The former Barcelona manager is determined to start a new era with Spain, and so far that’s been without Jordi Alba, with there potentially being bad feeling between the two men from their club days.
Jonny has made it clear he sees his Wolves spell as a temporary one, and will be returning to Madrid next summer.
