As the managerial pendulum swings, over the past couple of days Luis Enrique has been increasingly moving towards an Arsenal move.
The Catalan press, as they keep repeating, have been telling everyone about this for months, and the English media the joined in, with France’s L’Equipe reporting on Thursday that things are going well.
Sport have decided to throw a spanner in the works. The Catalan newspaper, in their Friday edition, explain Enrique is actually now ‘much closer to Chelsea’ than Arsenal or any other club.
Enrique is said to be well aware of the project on offer at Stamford Bridge, and is more interested in that proposal than what’s on offer at Arsenal. He’s being pushed to make a final decision over the next few days, according to the claims.
As it stands ‘there is nothing signed’, which would give some hope to Arsenal, but they need to hurry because Enrique would be discussing the final ‘fringes’ of his contract with Chelsea.
If the claims are correct, there may be a clue in the Sport article as to the overriding reason. Whilst it’s stated there’s big projects on offer at both clubs, Chelsea would give ‘the necessary resources’.
