In the past few weeks, we’ve probably had dozens of articles covering Jonathan Calleri’s situation at West Ham. As the player’s departure seemed to be certain, it was just a matter of where would he go to.
The striker’s father Guillermo Calleri had another meeting with the group of investors who owns the player’s rights, and expressed his son’s desire to return to São Paulo.
But the investors want to keep him in Europe, and in case they don’t receive any good offers, Calleri would stay at the Hammers at least until the end of the season. Only UD Las Palmas have shown interest so far, but the player rejected the offer.
Calleri promised São Paulo he’d give them an before until the end of the next week, and he’ll keep pushing for this move, although it’s clear that the situation doesn’t depend only on him.
The player is on loan at West Ham from Uruguayan club Maldonado, and despite having a few chances, still hasn’t shown enough for the London club.
It’s frustrating for everyone involved. Calleri wasn’t keen on the move in the first place, and he wasn’t West Ham’s first choice, or likely among their five first choices.
