All of a sudden, we get to see one of the wildest rumours of the winter market.
Bild journalist Christian Falk writes on Twitter that Real Madrid are interested in Manchester United defender Raphael Varane.
It’s claimed that following the injury to David Alaba, the Galaticos would like to bring the Frenchman back to the Santiago Bernabeu.
There are no further details on this chase, though, with Falk not making it clear whether Real Madrid made any kind of contact with Manchester United for the transfer.
Varane has been getting little playing time under Erik ten Hag this season, with 825 minutes played in 14 appearances so far. He did struggle with injuries at first, but was also left on the bench because of the Dutchman’s choices at some point.
Manchester United spent €40m to sign the defender from Real Madrid back in 2021, and now see him valued by Transfermarkt at €25m. It remains to be seen whether the club could afford losing a defender in the middle of the season, considering that Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have all been injured at points this season.
