Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray have been left disappointed as a ‘surprise decision’ from Mikel Arteta means they can no longer get Jorginho from Arsenal.
That’s according to Aksam, who say the Italian midfielder had been on the radar for the Super Lig side before Arteta put an end to the possibility.
They explain that Jorginho himself has chosen to stay at Arsenal, despite barely featuring this season, as he wants to prove himself at the club before the end of the season.
He also appears to have managed to ‘gain the favour’ of Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta, with reports in England even starting that he’s met with the player’s entourage and decided to extend his contract.
Whether that happens remains to be seen but what it does indicate is that Arsenal are no longer interested in potentially selling the Italian midfielder.
Instead, he appears to be a part of Arteta’s plans moving forwards, a idea strengthened by the recent inclusion of the midfielder in the team for the win over Liverpool.
That’s put an end to any small hopes that Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray may have had about signing him before the end of the Turkish transfer window.
Their eyes will still be on him for the summer, as he’s out of contract at that point unless Arsenal decide to extend him by another year, which they have an option to do.
