On July 15th, Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares completed a loan move to Lazio. As part of the deal, the Serie A side reportedly have an obligation to buy if certain set conditions are met.
Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà has talked about the obligation to buy, without mentioning if there are any conditions attached to it.
The Arsenal owned player registered two assists in his debut for Lazio in their 2-2 draw against AC Milan.
Pedullà states the Italian club had an opportunity to cash in from the 24-year-old’s sale, just months after they signed him from Arsenal.
He claims Galatasaray made a ‘sensational attempt’ to take the Portuguese away from Lazio. The journalist hasn’t specified the time frame, but claims it was recent.
The Biancocelesti had no intention of parting ways with Tavares. Therefore, the Italian club rejected the Turkish champions’ approach for the Gunners man.
This is a surprise claim considering it would have been complex for Galatasaray to sign him. Lazio would have had to make Tavares’ loan deal permanent and then agree a deal with the Istanbul club.
None of that happened and the fullback will be on loan at Lazio from Arsenal, at least until the conditional obligation is exercised.
