With Paul Pogba’s on/off return to Manchester United looking likely to one day end in an actual transfer, that means Real Madrid have missed out… at least according to the Catalan press.

Whereas in Madrid, the media report that Real Madrid chose not to pursue Pogba, in Barcelona it’s being reported as a loss.

Therefore, Madrid need a fallback option, and Catalan newspaper Sport say that fallback option is Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic.

Sport say Real Madrid believe they could sign the Serbian midfielder for around €40m to €45m, and that contacts have already been made with both club and player.

However, Sport claim, and this is directly the opposite of what is being reported in Madrid, that Florentino Perez still has a dream of signing Pogba.

That would make Matic a back-up. It would appear Sport are keen to report that Real Madrid are the losers in this one, and perhaps Matic has just been dragged in.

This just looks like Sport winding up Real Madrid fans over Pogba.
