Everton defender Ben Godfrey is now a target for Atlético Madrid, according to reports.

TuttoMercatoWeb today writes that as the Colchoneros look for a defensive reinforcement at the end of the transfer window, the Toffees’ player is one of the options on the table.

It’s said that as Godfrey is ‘in the sights’ of Atlético, the club already made ‘contacts’ to take him out of Everton.

The La Liga side are said to have another priority, which is Valencia’s Gabriel Paulista, but the Toffees’ player is ‘firmly’ in their list.

It’s said that Atlético would be keen on signing Godfrey ‘even on loan’, although it sounds like the real negotiations haven’t started yet.

Everton haven’t been giving the centre-back much playing this time this season, as he has 181 minutes on the pitch, with three appearances made.

Even though the Toffees spent €27.5m to sign him from Norwich City in 2020, he’s now valued by Transfermarkt at just €8m, and it’s difficult to imagine the club making a big profit with the sale.

We shall now see whether Atlético will actually come up with a late bid.
