Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Bogusz has finally undergone surgery nearly a month after suffering a ‘serious knee injury’ while on loan with UD Ibiza.
That’s what the club and AS report today, stating the youngster faces a ‘long period’ on the sidelines before he can return to action.
Bogusz has been in impressive form while on loan with the Spanish side this season, getting the regular playing time that wasn’t available at Leeds.
There have been numerous reports in Spain regarding his excellent performances, but that came to a shuddering halt last month when he picked up an ‘anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee’ in the 5-0 win.
According to the newspaper’s information, he underwent surgery in London this week and now faces a long period before he can return.
They confirm Bogusz will not play again this season, and Ibiza even looked for a replacement for him in the January transfer market and signed Álvaro Jiménez, who even took the Polish midfielder’s number 19 shirt.
UD Ibiza also confirmed the news, posting on Facebook that ‘everything turned out just fine’ for Bogusz, and he will ‘soon start his recovery’.
Quite why it’s taken a month for him to undergo surgery isn’t mentioned and is completely overlooked by the Spanish club and AS in covering the news.
Perhaps there was an issue between Leeds and Ibiza, and the two clubs had to come to some sort of agreement on what the best course of action was for Bogusz.
Either way, it seems they settled on surgery, and he’s now had that, with him now on the long road to recovery.
