Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone has told the Italian media he hasn’t ruled out exiting the Premier League side this month. The 28-year-old has been linked with Aston Villa in recent weeks, along with a return to his home country.

Speaking to TMW, Mannone was asked about the interest from other clubs and whether he will remain with Sunderland. The Italian confirmed before the window opened there were clubs showing an interest in him because he’d lost his place to Jordan Pickford. Mannone said even though he’s now back in the team he will this month still see what happens with his future.

” Before the opening of the market there were teams interested to take me. After the injury I was not playing, I’m here now as the jersey holder of Sunderland. Yes, there is interest from some clubs for January, but we’ll see what will happens. I will definitely stake my chances, ” said the Sunderland star.

Pickford sustained a knee injury in the recent defeat to Manchester United, which could rule him out for at least weeks. This has resulted in Mannone stepping back in as David Moyes’ number one, and the 28-year-old was in fine form during yesterday’s draw with Liverpo
