Sunderland have identified LOSC Lille’s Alan Virginius as a potential January transfer window target, with a loan deal potentially on the cards.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the youngster has became ‘disillusioned’ with life at the French club and could look to leave this month.
They explain that after arriving at Lille from Sochaux 18 months ago following a quick rise in Ligue 2 and a role in the French U20 team, Virginius has become unhappy with life at the club.
He’s only managed five appearances this season, including three in the Europa Conference League, and it’s become clear that he does not fit into Lille’s plans.
The time has come for him to see if the grass is greener elsewhere and Sunderland are one of the sides to have ‘checked the name’ of the 20-year-old attacking midfielder, alongside Clermont Foot and Young Boys.
The latter are the ones pushing the most and have already submitted a bid, offering a loan with a purchase option of around €4.5m including bonuses.
Thus, that deal could be on the cards for Sunderland as well if they want it, although for now they’re yet to submit a bid.
They may want to do so soon, though, with Young Boys already making their move and keen on securing Virginius’ signature this month.
