Sunderland are reportedly close to signing Andreas Samaris from Benfica. According to Friday’s edition of O Jogo, very few details can stop the deal from happening.
This isn’t the only transfer between the Eagles and the Black Cats reported in today’s edition. The newspaper is also the one breaking the story of Sebastian Coates’ summer move to Benfica, rather than Sporting.
It’s claimed that during these talks, the clubs also lined up the Samaris deal. Sunderland are reportedly paying more than €20m for the player and have offered him around two times what he earns in Portugal.
Both sides are said to be pretty confident that the move is happening, since the amounts on the table seem to satisfy everyone.
What’s left is: First, Samaris obviously needs to accept the terms. Even though his agent has been following the negotiations, the answer hasn’t been given yet.
Then the newspaper, who claims to have their sources from Sunderland, says the deal could be off in case David Moyes gets sacked from the club.
The manager is the one who asked for the signing, and as claimed by O Jogo, he could be sacked depending on the result the cub gets against West Brom tomorrow.
This is mentioned as something that could definitely cancel the agreement, so it could be an important match for Moyes, Sunderland, Benfica and Samaris.
