Sunderland and Newcastle United are interested in signing Swedish defender Filip Helander, reports Gazza Mercato in Italy.
Helander signed for Verona only 12 months ago from Swedish side Malmo in a €1m deal, and it seems he could be packing his bags again soon.
Gazza Mercato say Verona are ready to cash in on the player, and that Helander is valued around €4m.
Sunderland might have the advantage over Newcastle, as they could offer Helander the chance of playing in the Premier League.
According to another Italian website Hellas Live, Helander didn’t train yesterday and the next hours could be crucial.
The 23-year-old made 24 league appearances last season, and has another three years left on his contract at the Serie A club.
Newcastle and Sunderland are often paired with interest in the same players, and either their scouts travel Europe together, or when one is linked, it helps a story to link the other too.
