Two days ago, Jeunes Footeux reported Sunderland have identified Toulouse FC’s Charlie Cresswell as an ‘ideal target’ to improve their defence on their return to the Premier League.
Sunderland aren’t the only club looking at the centre-back as Cesc Fabregas’ Como are keen on securing his services.
That’s according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who states the Serie A club are in advanced talks to sign the 22-year-old. In fact, he reports Como are ‘finalising the purchase’ of Cresswell from the Ligue 1 side.
Di Marzio claims Toulouse are asking €25m, while the Italian club’s offer is €10m short of their request. He believes the two clubs could come to an agreement at around €16/17m.
Jeunes Footeux relay this claim and then give their own take on this case. They say the Black Cats are joined by Como in pushing to sign the England U21 international.
Cresswell left Leeds United to join the French club last summer and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
Régis Le Bris wants to build a squad good enough to avoid relegation and the report says his ‘obsession’ is to strengthen defence.
The former Whites man ‘ticks all the boxes’ for Sunderland. With Como advancing, the English club can beat them by offering €25m, or close to it, to Toulouse.
Cresswell’s exit seems inevitable, it’s just a matter of where.
