Sunderland’s move for striker Alexandre Mendy is ‘still stuck’ despite him having made it clear he would like to join the Black Cats.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that the move has been blocked by the French side for the time being.

They explain that the Guinea-Bissau striker had decided to choose Sunderland as his next destination despite interest from Al-Riyad, Sampdoria and Al-Ahly.

He believes the project at Sunderland is the best one for him and there had been an expectation a deal would be completed for several days, but the situation ‘remains frozen’.

According to FM’s information this is because of the current ownership issue at SM Caen, with them set to be taken over by Kylian Mbappé’s family, who are buying them from the American investment fund Oaktree.

The future investors at the French team wish to meet with the striker and his entourage and discuss his future, presumably to try and convince him to stay with them and not go to Sunderland.

Whether they can actually do so, with the striker currently being left out of training by the club, remains to be seen but what it does mean is that his move to the Stadium of Light is being held up in the short term.
