Despite being a regular for Sunderland since the start of the season and earning himself a call up to the Gabon international team, Didier Ndong isn’t loved by everyone.
According to Les Panthernautes, the official fan association of the Gabon national team, quite a few players within the squad were against the defensive midfielder’s return.
Labelled a ‘problem player’ by some of them, Ndong apparently divides the dressing room, with some admitting he is a talented player, while others feel the team chemistry is better without him.
In fact, a few of them even threatened not to travel and play for their country if the Sunderland midfielder was included, which he has.
However, Lions de L’Atlas claim the general manager has managed to appease the situation, and everyone who has been called up should be there to face Morocco in the coming days.
Whether or not this is the case in Sunderland’s dressing room, we don’t know, but nothing like this has filtered in the British press, suggesting it’s just a national team issue.
