Senegalese left-back Cheikh M’Bengue is looking for a new club this summer, after his contract expired at Ligue 1 club Rennes.
The player refused to sign a new deal at the club, as he wishes to switch clubs this summer, and could be heading to the Premier League.
According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Sunderland are interested in signing M’Bengue.
Clubs from Germany and Turkey are also interested in his services, but Sunderland seem to be the most interested ones.
There is no mention of any contract offers yet for the player, who made 25 appearances this season.
M’Bengue is likely to be a back-up for Patrick van Aanholt, if Sunderland do sign him, as the Dutch left back has been in good form for the Black Cats this season.
The 27-year-old signed for Rennes from Toulouse in 2007 in a £1.50m deal, and has made 89 appearances for the Ligue 1 club.
