Sunderland have reportedly shown interest in the Vitória de Guimarães striker Moussa Marega.

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the Black Cats are keen on signing a goalscorer in January and see the French-Malian striker as a good option.

The 25-year-old actually belongs to Porto, and is on loan at Guimarães until the end of this season. A Bola doesn’t mention if the agreement has a clause which would allow a transfer in January, though.

Marega’s numbers from this season are quite impressive. Ten goals and two assists in nine appearances, but now a suspension which will leave him out until December.

Marega was sent off in Vitória de Guimarães’ last game and left the stadium right after the incident. He only rejoined the squad this week, after apologising to everyone at the club.

The player currently has a €40m release clause, but even though Portuguese clubs are known for trying to extract every Euro they can, an actual transfer fee wouldn’t be close to that.
