Sunderland and West Ham United are among the clubs in the mix to sign Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss this summer.

The attacking midfielder joined Leicester towards the end of last season and signed a contract until 2028. The Foxes were relegated from the top flight and he doesn’t want to play in the Championship this season.

Sunderland and West Ham could offer the Leicester player an escape in this window.

That’s according to L’Equipe, and they state the Black Cats have approached the 21-year-old. In addition to this, West Ham and AS Monaco have also made contacts to try and sign him.

The Ligue 1 club will have to offload one of their own players before making an approach for the former KRC Genk man. Although West Ham and Monaco are interested, the report states Sunderland seem to have a head start in the transfer race.

L’Equipe claim Sunderland director of football Florent Ghisolfi is leading the pursuit and Régis Le Bris’ side ‘hope to finalise’ the deal for the Morocco international. The fee needed to convince Leicester or their stance on sanctioning a move for the player isn’t mentioned.

El Khannouss managed three goals and five assists from 36 games for Leicester last season.
