Former Sunderland player Ola Toivonen has given his backing to West Bromwich Albion defender Jonas Olsson joining Djurgarden today. Olsson’s contract with West Brom was set to expire in the summer, but his time with the Premier League side has ended prematurely.
Speaking to Expressen, Toivonen was asked about his former international teammate leaving West Brom before next week’s Swedish transfer deadline.
The Sunderland flop said he spoke to Olsson yesterday, and he believes the move will be good for the player. Toivonen thinks with the signing of Olsson and the other experience players brought in Djurgardens now have a solid team.
“I talked to Jonas yesterday. It’s good for Jonas. A very good signing for Djurgardens. They did well to get a defender and a striker. You now have a solid team with Isaksson, Olsson and Kallstrom,” said the former Sunderland forward.
Olsson spent eight seasons at West Brom, but this season has been difficult for the Swede. Tony Pulis has often overlooked the 33-year-old in this campaign and it soon became apparent this would be his last season with the club.
